Cover Spotlight on Jewellery Focus Magazine, London, UK | October 2017

This October, aureate miniature sculptures from my recently launched Thumbeline collection, have had the surprising honor of being featured on the cover of London's Jewellery Focus Magazine, the largest jewelry trade publication in the UK today. Two golden, balletic figurines from my first set; 'A Golden Symphony' and 'Celestial Elegance' were the selected pair of sculptural pendants photographed and shown on the cover. Set against a backdrop of Philippine Narra wood, their reflective silhouettes dance and gleam under the warmth of bright incandescent lighting.

In a full interview with Jewellery Focus's chief editor; Michael Northcott, I was able to share a bit more about my passions for sculpture, gemology and jewelry design throughout my years of growing up in the urban centers of Southeast Asia. The superb team of layout artists, graphic designers and writers very professionally crafted this delightful 7-page feature on me and my artworks, delving a little bit as well into their history and conceptualization.

The article features profile photography from my studio, where I learned how to sculpt under the tutelage of my dad, Seb Chua. His modern sculptures prevail at the heart of abstract expressionism, with a representational family-centered motif as the common factor in a majority of his creations. Our joint studio has allowed me to learn, evolve and experiment in the realm of sculpture. To this day, I would definitely say that his teachings hold the most responsibility for me going into this field.

In the succeeding pages of the interview, I detail my creative inspiration, stylistic mannerisms and design habits as someone who crosses over from one field, to another. Sculpture is my personal favorite form of art, and I intimately believe that jewelry at its essence, is a form of wearable sculpture or wearable art that can expressively illustrate someone's nature and character, sharing it with the eyes of the world.

Mr. Northcott and the incredible team at Jewellery Focus Magazine did a wonderful job in helping me to express my creative passion to readers in the UK. It's my great pleasure to be part of such an innovative media publication that has influenced Britain's timeless jewelry trade throughout the years.

I'm a modern sculptor who circles around the possibility of creating contemporary beauty through fluid, smoothened curvatures of the human form. I have a craving for the elusive impact that abstract art can sometimes convey through its magnificent renderings of the human conditions. Once in a blue moon, I also tend to sleeptalk.
